I'm a seasoned pro when it comes to math education. Here's a bit of my experience and training.

• 25 years of teaching math to diverse learners
• Wrote my M.A. thesis on 'mathematical flexibility' and have peer-reviewed publications in the area of math education
• I have a masters in educational psychology with a focus on learning disabilities
• Trained and led staff of 20 math teachers for a decade
• When kids do math with me they start loving it - especially kids who didn't like it before!

My Gifted Kid Hates School

Lots of smart kids hate school. And a lot of the time -- they have a point! School can be at once boring and overwhelming, teaching everything except what really matters to a strong-minded and intelligent person.

• Spend a month remaking your approach to school and look at unique options to handle your unique situation.
• Develop passions and interests and get learning outside of school (in case school can't deliver what you really need)
• Take control of your learning life in school and out.

It's not easy having a gifted mind and I LOVE helping kids see how they can change their approach to school (and learning in general)

Get Credit for School Learning Online

When I help students learn online, they often increase their marks and decrease their stress. In BC there's 55 schools to choose from, and they work just like regular public schools.

• Get credits just like the ones you get at your 'in person' school
• Work fully online, or take a few courses online while you stay at your school.
• Learn to use your strengths and avoid challenges like test anxiety.
• Get core academic credits, or unique enrichment credits you can't get at your 'in person' school

I know a ton about online learning, especially in BC. I've been providing programs to kids working online for nearly 20 years, and I've seen it all. I know about funding, accrediting, and most importantly, how to make the learning experience valuable.

• I've helped 100s of kids graduate online, and go to their post-secondary school of choice.
• I help kids find the most efficient route to finishing, while making sure the learning sticks.

Deep Dive Into Your Passion or Special Interest

I love when kids have deep interests and strong passions - no matter what they are! I show my students how to nurture their curiosity, building skills and deep knowledge as they go.

• Spend a month going deep into your area of interest
• Share all you know, and find new avenues to explore
• Discover how your interest works 'in the real world' and learn about career opportunities (if you want to)
• Create projects, exhibitions, and other outputs that share what you've learned in our month.

These students are so fun! I love exploring what a student finds relevant and exciting to learn, and I've been doing it since I began in the education field.

Improve Your Written Output

I love working with kids who hate writing, or struggle to do it. I get it! I use an interest-based approach, and we make writing fun and doable.

• Write for school, or learn to write about what you love (or both).
• Stop spending hours staring at a blank screen (learn how to get started!).
• Find your 'voice' as a writer, and write with a style that's your own.
• Express all the complex ideas floating around in your head.

So many kids struggle with output! It can be an underlying learning disability, stress under pressure, or any of a wide variety of possible causes. I've seen them all, and I use a kind, low-stress, method to get kids writing.

• I'm a master at making it meaningful, which means my students are game to write and eager to share the results.
• I focus on both process and output - so that the work quality is better, but the process less painful.
• Kids love seeing their work improve, and they usually hear about it from their teachers, too.
