My other interests include: everything.
I hope you’ll benefit from my intellectual curiosity, fire for learning, and belief in every kid’s potential. I focus on making sure my families get a ton of value, learn a lot, and leave our sessions feeling energized and confident.
It’s All About You
My business strategy is simple: I try to provide more value to your family than what you pay me. That’s been my approach since I started, and it’s served me well.
In addition to working hard to acheive results, I limit my practice size, and only work with students if they’re fully game for it (no, your parents can’t sign you up, you have to agree!).
Let’s chat before you buy, to make sure it’s good value. If there’s a cheaper or better suited alternative that’s not me, I’ll suggest it!

My Research and Specialities
Take a look at some of my published research
Take a look at my study on mathematical flexiblity (it was my M.A. thesis), looking at how and when students are flexible vs. automatic when they encounter new things in a math problem
I worked on a research team that studied how students self-regulate learning during literacy activities - we learned it depends not just on the students, but also the contexts and enviornments in which they learn. This completely transformed my practice as a teacher. You can read some of the papers I co-authored here.
What I do best….
Supporting kids with learning challenges
I’ve got a masters in special education and thousands of hours working with kids who have all kinds of learning differences. I love it! There’s so many ways for students to thrive, it’s just about finding the right one!
Helping Students get credit
I’ve been helping students get credit for at-home work for 20 years! There are SO MANY options, and I teach students how to find and obtain the right credits - both new courses and validating the work a student already does.
Making learning fun and meaningful
I love knowledge, art, and human culture - and I bring that into my work, encouraging students to explore their interests, and infusing schoolwork with meaning. Let’s talk econ, psych, music, art, math, statistics, media and more!
Blending consulting, coaching, and teaching
As a consultant, I’ll learn about your specific situation, and help you build the right path forward; as a coach, I’ll encourage you to overcome obstacles and use your strengths to navigate that path; and as a teacher, I engage with students to bring learning to life, and make knowledge accessible and inspiring.
Organization and task management that works
Getting things done is hard, even when you have the best intentions. But it can be done! My secret is to build the system around the student and their strengths, drawing on a variety of approaches to task management; and, to focus on “good enough” organization - just enough planning to get the job done, and no more than that!
Coaching the whole family
The family is a system, and each member affects the learning environment of the others. Sometimes I work with several members of a family, sometimes I work with one student as my client - but in all cases, we look at how the family system is impacting learning, and how we best use that family system to create learning.
